Interest in Electric Vehicles On the Rise

Cars are getting greener and many drivers are noticing. More and more of them are looking for information about electric and hybrid vehicles these days, and the data paints an interesting picture of what the green car market may look like in a few years. We'll be paying close attention here at Keyes Toyota, and we can't wait to see what other green Toyota cars are in the works!

Types of Green Cars

There are multiple types of green cars to pick from. Hybrid Electric Vehicles, or HEVs, are models that use gasoline engines and an electric motor. The battery charges with engine and braking activity, and a hybrid uses this energy to boost fuel economy numbers. The 2021 Toyota Sienna uses hybrid tech to improve its fuel efficiency.

Plug-in hybrids, or PHEV, also come equipped with a traditional engine and an electric motor, but these can be plugged in to charge. These are models like the 2021 Toyota Prius. Finally, there are all-electric vehicles. These models have to be recharged too, but they never require any gasoline.

Statistics of Note

There are many reasons to think that the green car market is primed for big growth in the coming years. Drivers are using search engines to look for information about green cars more often. This is especially true in states like California, Washington, and Oregon, states that have already built out some charging infrastructure that allows people to give their batteries a boost when on the road.

At the same time, automakers are making even more green vehicles than before. Around 300 new or redesigned models could be released in the next four years, and of those 26% are going to be some kind of hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or electric-only model! A wider variety of available green cars, drivers' desire to lower emissions, and the addition of more charging stations should all contribute to growth for this market.
